Chamber Hears Call to Lead the World

FIFE Chamber recently held its annual dinner at the Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, St Andrews with First Minister Alex Salmond as the guest of honour.

More than 250 guests from businesses all over Fife enjoyed a drinks reception and dinner followed by an after dinner speech by John McKelvie and a charity draw with an array of glittering prizes.  Dr Peter Hughes of Scottish Engineering, formerly of Glencast in Methil, chaired the event with vigour.

In his address, the First Minister said:”I pay tribute to the successful businessmen and women here today and I say to all of you that my commitment, and the commitment of my Government, is to create the right environment for business in Fife and across Scotland to prosper.

“But, beyond creating the right environment for business, there is something else we must do to.  We must all raise our heads and shift the mentality-so that we never again settle for second best, and that we genuinely aspire to lead the world.”

Fife Chamber president Duncan Dewar, of Upper Largo, said later:”Our annual dinner is always a popular and thoroughly enjoyable event and this year has proved no exception.

“We are honoured to have been joined by the First Minister and I am sure our guests found his speech insightful and of real interest.”
