SCOTLAND CONVERT TAKES ON TOP ROLE AT QUEENSFERRY HOTEL

When Mark Drake arrived in Scotland three years ago to take over the management of a Glasgow city centre hotel, he planned to be back ‘home’ in the South East of England within 12 months.  But his positive experience of Scotland and its people has led to him settling permanently and now Mark has taken on a new career challenge as General Manager of the Queensferry Hotel in Fife.

Mark’s arrival at the three-star 77-bedroom hotel on the banks of the Firth of Forth, owned by Folio Hotels, comes as the hotel completes the first phase of a £3 million refurbishment programme. In the past twelve months, £2 million has been spent updating the hotel’s bedrooms, conference facilities and North Shore restaurant and under Mark’s leadership, a further £1 million will be spent during 2008/9 on additional renovations.

Mark comments: “This is a tremendously exciting time for The Queensferry and I am delighted to be taking the reins. I came to Scotland in 2004 with plans to return to London after twelve months, but the experience and great Scottish hospitality has led to me settling here permanently. My intention is to re-establish the Queensferry as the leading hotel in Fife, with unrivalled levels of customer service.

“The hotel is one of Fife’s best kept secrets and I want to change that. It benefits from being in a fabulous location with panoramic views of the Forth bridges and following the initial refurbishment we now boast state-of-the art conference facilities, contemporary bedrooms and a fabulous restaurant. Over the coming year we will be upgrading the remaining areas to our high standards. It’s a big challenge I’m looking forward to tackling.”

Mark joins Folio from Whitbread, where for three years he was General Manager of the 250-bedroom Premier Inn Hotel in George Square, Glasgow,  Prior to this he managed the Premier Inn Hotel in Putney, London.

His industry experience also includes three years running his own restaurant business in Hertfordshire and 10 years managing outlets for businesses including Allied Domecq and Luminar Leisure

Mark lives in Castlecary with wife Amanda and their two young children, Ben and Abi.
