Elmwood Student Becomes First Chinese Referee a Golf Major
Former Elmwood College student, Taylor Li Jinliang, was delighted to be part of this years' British Open at Turnberry when he became the first Chinese person to officiate at one of golf's four Majors.
Taylor received an invitation from the R&A to participate at the Open in March, just as the rules official was about to embark on his fourth season as Chief Referee on the Omega China Tour.
Taylor first came to Scotland in 2002 to study the PDA Golf Facility Management course at Elmwood where he excelled in his studies. In March 2005 he passed the Rules School held by R&A in Beijing and in February 2006 passed the R&A's Referee's School in St Andrews itself.
Since then, he has been the Chief Referee on the Omega China Tour, a series of events which provide China's top golfers with a consistent platform of well-managed tournaments and a prize money pool that enable the successful participants to dedicate themselves to their golfing career.
Over the past ten years, Elmwood has built excellent links with China by promoting golf education through partner universities and colleges through the China Golf Project. The project aims to transfer expert knowledge of golf-related education to their Chinese partners.
