FTA Welcomes Rosyth – Zeebrugge Freight Ferry Developments

The Freight Transport Association has welcomed the announcement by DFDS Seaways that from the end of the year it will be providing two dedicated freight vessels for its Rosyth - Zeebrugge ferry service. DFDS have also announced that the current three day a week service will be increased to four. This new service is to replace the current one vessel freight and passenger mixed service, the passenger element of which has not proved viable according to DFDS.

Commenting, Chris MacRae, FTA's Head of Policy for Scotland said "We welcome the news of investment in this ferry service for freight. The service provides a direct link between Scotland and the Continent and is important to Scotland's supply chains and to achieving the challenging carbon reduction targets set by Scottish Government."

"Achieving logistical and carbon efficiency in Scotland's supply chain and maintaining and improving Scotland's connectivity are key objectives of FTA and our Scottish Supply Chain Forum will be discussing the impacts of this development at its next meeting on 16th September.
