Latest news from AICR
The St Andrews based cancer research charity AICR (Association for International Cancer Research), has been praised by Scottish Health Secretary, Nicola Sturgeon.
Meeting with scientific and fund-raising staff at their offices on South Street recently, Ms Sturgeon paid tribute to the ‘major contribution' made by the charity to supporting cancer research worldwide.
Ms Sturgeon said "Thanks to AICR here in Fife, hundreds of projects in more than two dozen countries are looking into how to improve cancer treatment and prevention. I am really impressed that a relatively small charity which does not have a big profile achieves such an amazing amount."
AICR is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a major scientific conference in St Andrews from April 7-9.
Since its inception, AICR has funded 1800 research projects in 32 countries, at a cost of over £132million. They are currently funding 214 cancer research projects at 108 of the world's top scientific establishments in 24 countries-an investment of more than £35 million.
