HW Berry – Accountancy Firm’s Flagship Survey
Fife-based accountancy firm HW Berry has conducted an in-depth survey of the owner-managed business sector in the UK. Key findings from the survey of Scottish businesses:
- Despite the economic turmoil, 81.82% of business owners surveyed had managed to avoid making redundancies in the last 12 months
- Going forward 95.45% predict that they won't make any further redundancies this year
- 81.82% of business owners would recommend running your own business to others
- 1 in 4 business owners surveyed said that they are currently being asked by their bank to provide personal guarantees to support their business
- Only 4.55% of business owners surveyed felt that the VAT reduction had helped their business
Fraser Kerr, Senior Partner at HW Berry comments: "There needs to be far more emphasis on measures that help businesses with cash flow such as staggering PAYE contributions. The VAT reduction was of little help to most business owners but was the main tax stimulus deployed by the Treasury."
