Fife Chamber Announces New President
Fife Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of Mr Bob Garmory as its new President at the business group's recent AGM.
Currently a Director at the Purvis Group based in Lochgelly and co-owner of Fife Airport, Mr Garmory vowed to ensure that the voice of Fife businesses will continue to be heard in all seats of government.
He said: "Our members have experienced very difficult conditions of late and I hope that Fife Chamber can make a difference to help restore economic growth going forward. I am honoured to be elected to this position and will do everything possible to represent Fife Chamber and its members as effectively as I can.
"For a number of years now I have firmly believed that Fife Chamber is the foremost organisation to represent the interests of businesses of all sizes across the Kingdom and will strive to convince more businesses to join. I will continue to drive the agenda which Bill Main has established and this will include key priorities to ensure adequate support for businesses, to give local businesses fair access to public sector contracts and to work closely with public sector organisations to ensure Fife is a better place to do business.
"Creating the conditions that will allow Fife businesses to flourish is my aim, so that we can see a return to a situation where local companies are creating jobs and wealth for local people."
In his acceptance speech Mr Garmory offered high praise for the tremendous work done by the outgoing President, Bill Main, over the past 2 years.
He commented: "Bill Main has been at the helm of Fife Chamber at a time when the economy has performed poorly yet the Chamber has grown both in membership and in stature. We are all indebted to Bill for his efforts and thank him for the legacy of a strong Fife Chamber. I have a hard act to follow."
Fife Chamber works to contribute positively to the Fife economy by representing its members' interests, engaging with businesses of all types, identifying and debating issues affecting the Fife economy and lobbying locally and nationally to help resolve business concerns.
