Cluny Clays Celebrates 25 Years and 1 Million Visitors

19th July 2016

One of Fife's best known outdoor activity centres has welcomed over 1 million visitors since it opened 25 years ago. Cluny Clays in Kirkcaldy celebrated this significant milestone by officially opening its newly renovated clubhouse on 26th June.

Drew and Robin Shedden started the business in 1991 using a kit house as the Clubhouse on the basis that if the business didn't take off, they would at least have somewhere to live! Take off it did, and Cluny Clays has seen its business flourish as it offered clay shooting, food, drink, events for businesses and stag parties, archery, golf, cricket and children's outdoor play. Moving with the times has been key to their success and the recent introduction of Segway trekking has opened up a whole new way of enjoying the outdoors.

Drew said:

"It's 25 years since the portacabin days and here we are opening the brand new clubhouse. It has been a huge investment but it's important to us to keep offering what visitors want. People enjoy lots of different outdoor activities, but they also expect comfortable, relaxing surroundings, locally sourced food and delicious home baking, so that's what we offer."

Ann Camus, project manager for Fife Tourism, congratulated Cluny Clays on their anniversary:

"Outdoor tourism is very important to Fife – we've been voted best outdoor tourism destination for eight years running. Cluny Clays is a very popular location for locals and visitors from Edinburgh, Perth and further afield. The range of activities means that there's something for everyone to enjoy. Congratulations to Drew and all at Cluny Clays on their 25th anniversary and an impressive 1 million visitors!"
