Scottish Chambers of Commerce have recently appointed Aberdeen-based businessman Mike Salter as their new Chairman at their Annual General Meeting. Mike replaces Norman Quirk, who has completed his two year term of office and steps down after a successful period at the helm of Scotland's Ultimate Business Network. Looking forward to his Chairmanship, Mike Salter said:
In light of the much publicised Credit Crunch being upon us managements of businesses may be tempted to cut their insurance costs to the bone by dispensing with cover. There are reasons why this should not be done. Non-shareholder managers may find themselves the subject of an action by shareholders if a loss were to occur and the insurance arrangements found to be inadequate.
Many people still talk very positively about last year's Comedy Festival when we had 25 comedians in 11 performances across 5 venues during 4 fun packed nights. The 2009 Festival is a significant step up on last year and one which will be a great experience and have a positive impact on the local economy.
Legal & General recently undertook a survey of British Chambers of Commerce members to establish the level of Business Protection. The following is some of the key findings of the survey based on over 1,000 responses: - 90% of businesses have up to only 3 owners- 69% of businesses have between 1 and 10 employees
This summer the Shell operated Fife Natural Gas Liquids Plant (Fife NGL) at Mossmorran and the nearby Braefoot Bay Loading Terminal celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary. The Fife NGL Plant plays a key role in maximising the value of the North Sea's natural resources.

Fife Chamber's Financial Administrator Marjory Fowler has signed up to take part in Macmillan Fife Zipline Challenge 2009. Marjory, who is terrified of heights(!), will be crane lifted 150 feet into the air at Ravenscraig Park on Sunday 23rd August 2009 and then zipline down gathering speed of up to 50 mph!
