Fife Chamber future in focus

1st April 2016

Following a challenging year for the Fife business community, Fife Chamber of Commerce is looking to the future with a strengthening of its team and membership offering.

Chief Executive Eric Byiers explains: “As the leading business organisation in Fife – representing over 300 businesses across the region – Fife Chamber is a locally based employer organisation, with a national and international voice and role.

“The Chamber lobbies local and national government on behalf of its members on vital issues, such as business rates, as well as providing direct business support services, networking opportunities and information on business matters.

“The need for business-led organisations to represent local industry has never been greater, and with that in mind, the board of Fife Chamber is now taking steps to strengthen the Chamber’s role in the local economy, continue to improve services for our members and ensure that our resources are aligned to that work.

“A new membership executive will be on board shortly and a modern apprentice will also be employed to join the Chamber’s administration team.

“In addition, following a planned two-year tenure as chief executive, the time has also come for me to step aside and make way for a new full-time chief executive to build on our strong foundations and further strengthen our links to, and services for, Fife Chamber members.”

Fife Chamber President John Silcock added: “Fife Chamber of Commerce must constantly evolve to meet the expectations and requirements of our members. In the months ahead, we want to build on the Chamber’s success in serving the business community and our membership in particular.

“The recruitment of a new membership executive and modern apprentice demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our staff resources can ably meet the demands of providing the top level of business support that we strive to for all our members.

“With Eric’s planned retirement from the role in June, the board are now looking to recruit a new, full-time chief executive with a sound knowledge of business, excellent connections and a robust commercial outlook who will be able to build on existing partnerships and create new opportunities to enhance the chief executive’s role.

“Eric has been a hard working, strong and excellent guide through a difficult transitional period for the Chamber, and I can’t thank him enough for the time and dedication he has put into the role. His vast experience and skillset have been instrumental in securing the Chamber’s current position and in helping to develop the implementation of a positive plan for the Chamber’s long-term future and growth.”
