21st April 2017

Fife Chamber were delighted to handover cheques at their recent Fife Social event at the Ecology Centre in Kinghorn.

A fantastic £3000 was raised with the charity prize draw at the Fife Business Awards on 31st March. Over 300 people attended the black tie event which saw local business celebrate their achievements and enjoy a great evening of entertainment.

The charities who benefited from the money raised were Fife Alcohol Support Service (FASS) and Worldwide Cancer Research.

FASS was founded in 1977 with a vision to improve the quality of life of people in Fife affected by alcohol-rlated problems. For 40 years, FASS has delievred a confidential alcohol counselling and psychotherapy service for the people of Fife.

Jim Bett Service Manager at FASS said "I would like to thank Fife Chamber and everyone who attended the Awards for this very generous donation to Fife Alcohol Support Service. We will use the money to modernise some of business infrastructure that supports the therapeutic work of the charity. In particular an upgrade of our broadband will prove most useful and allow us to develop internet/intranet service support for our volunteer counsellors who work with some of the most vulnerable people in our society."

Worldwide Cancer Research is a leading charity funding research into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world. Based in St Andrews they believe only the freedom to fund the best research, no matter where it occurs, will help to find and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

We’re immensely grateful to Fife Chamber of Commerce for raising £1500 for us. This generous donation will now go straight to helping fund pioneering research all over the world. In fact, £1500 will pay for as much as 62 hours of research. That’s 62 more hours in which an important breakthrough in how we understand and treat cancer could happen at any moment.” – Alan Melia, Head of Fundraising Operations
