Monday, 16 January 2017
Former Fife College Apprentice, Thomas Kellock from Leven, has been awarded Automotive Apprentice of theYear at a special event held in memory of former lecturer, Brian Inches.
Thomas (22) completed his apprenticeship a few months ago and secured a full-time position as a Technician with Pentland Landrover in Cupar which he is thoroughly enjoying.
Thomas along with runners up, Stuart Burns (23) from Dunfermline and Ryan Simpson (22) from Ballingry, attended the awards presentation, held at the College’s Stenton Campus in Glenrothes recently.
All three prize winners were presented with certificates and Fluke digital multi-meters. Thomas was also presented with the Brian Inches Memorial Plaque by Brian’s wife Julie, who was delighted to attend the event.
The memorial award was set up five years ago after Brian, aged 46, sadly died from heart failure.
Said Julie: “Brian worked at the College as a lecturer for many years and was passionate about teaching students. His background had always been the motor industry and he loved passing his knowledge on to others - he saw their potential and was keen to help them learn and do things right. Brian was hard working and full of fun and would be delighted that this prize was being awarded. I feel honoured that the College makes this award each year which helps to keep Brian’s memory alive.”
Stephen Ayton, Curriculum Manager at Fife College said: “These awards are special in that they give us a chance to stop and recognise the effort over the year put in by our students while remembering Brian and leaving a legacy in his name.
“Thomas, Stewart and Ryan are all very deserving and I would like to congratulate them all and wish them well in their future careers.”
Thomas is committed to further learning and is enjoying the many training opportunities available at Pentland Landrover. Said Thomas: “I am over the moon to win this award which is a great honour. Long term I hope to gain as many skills and qualifications as I can and work my way up to Master Technician status.”
