Fife College Graduate Nominated for British Education Awards

Talented former Radio student, Stuart Russell has been shortlisted for the prestigious British Education Awards in London.

Stuart, 25, from Glenrothes, was nominated for the Vocational category at the Awards by Fife College as a result of his excellent academic results and extremely pro-active attitude towards his studies.

Stuart, who graduated last year with HND Radio, took an interest in arts and media at a young age. During his time at College he developed an award winning podcast called Arts In Fife which focussed on Fife’s creative scene. He also gained an eight month internship with Dundee based company, The Podcast Host, where he was able to utilise the knowledge he had developed at College in a real life industry environment. While working at The Podcast Host, Stuart won the first Scottish Podcast Scholarship to create a new series called, Earth.

A ten week course through Bauer Academy, who provide creative media training for young people across the UK, also helped Stuart secure a job at BBC: The Social.

No stranger to national awards, Stuart has previously been awarded with a British Empire Medal and British Citizen Award for his services to the arts. His knowledge and skills in art, media and photography has enabled him to create interesting, entertainment content across a variety of media.

Stuart is delighted to have been nominated for this prestigious award and is grateful to all his lecturers for their support. Said Stuart: “It is incredible to think what I’ve achieved so far. I work hard and strive to create a better life for myself and I really hope it inspires more young people to be bold and trust in their own abilities. Studying radio was a great experience and credit goes to my lecturers who supported me and believed in me.”

Fife College Radio Lecturer, Richard Hamilton supported Stuart throughout his studies and is thrilled to see him get the recognition he deserves after all his hard work. Said Richard: “I am extremely proud of Stuart for everything he has achieved during his time at college and university. Stuart was a diligent and respectful student who showed great enthusiasm in class and I am delighted to see that all his hard work is paying off.”

The British Education Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday 30^th January 2017 at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The venue will host those shortlisted for an award and their friends and families, educators, politicians and professionals from across the UK.
