St Andrews Business Club 2018-19 season aiming to build on record success

16th August 2018

Bank of England Agent for Scotland, William Dowson, and digital entrepreneur Chris van der Kuyl head the list of speakers being announced for a St Andrews Business Club 2018-19 season aiming to build on the record-breaking success of the last one.

The 2017-18 season saw the club double its membership to a record of 128 members and set a new record for attendance at a Club event – its North-East Fife 2018 event on January 24.

As result, the new season being announced today has been designed to build on the elements which contributed to its success as well as provide members with learning events on topics they requested via a survey.

People doing business in North-East Fife are being invited to join club members and their guests at most events, starting with the student-run University of St Andrews Enterprise Week Keynote Event on October 8, at which the keynote speaker will be Chris van der Kuyl. Other speakers will include young entrepreneurs Lizzie Brough of Kindaba and Sam Trett of LoCaBev.

They can also join members for expert insights on key business issues. On November 21, William Dowson, the Bank of England’s Agent for Scotland, will discuss the Bank’s views on the current economic climate, interest rates and the business environment while on January 16 Gordon Mole from Fife Council and Professor Brad MacKay from the University of St Andrews will share their thoughts on the factors which will influence the business environment in North-East Fife in 2019, including Brexit and the Tay Cities Deal.

This season’s learning event topics have been chosen by club members - effective negotiation skills on November 7 and business growth from research-based Innovation on February 13. Both events are open to non-members and have renowned experts leading them.

Attendees will gain inspiration as well as career lessons and the chance to question the high-achieving speakers at three events – the University of St Andrews Enterprise Week Keynote Event on October 8, the club’s second Inspiring Women event on March 6 and the AGM Evening in May next year. Speakers for the latter events will announced later.

Club members and their guests will also enjoy privileged access to places and people in the coming season with a Members and Guests-only tour of the University of St Andrews’ Eden Campus on September 12 followed by private visits and social events at five-star businesses on December 5 and June 26. Their identities will be revealed later.

Details of the full season’s dates, topics, speakers and how to join the club are on its website at www.standrewsbusinessclub.co.uk
