MacRoberts celebrates a double win at the British Legal Awards and the Law Awards of Scotland

6th December 2018

MacRoberts’ Real Estate team has been named Property Team of the Year at the prestigious 2018 British Legal Awards, on the same night Rebecca Barrass was crowned Junior Lawyer of the Year at the Law Awards of Scotland.

MacRoberts was the only Scottish-based firm to be shortlisted at the 2018 awards and fought off competition from magic circle firms Clifford Chance, CMS, Herbert Smith Freehills and Hogan Lovells.

The awards follow an outstanding year for the firm’s Real Estate team, which has worked on a wide variety of high-profile projects across Scotland and the UK for clients including major corporations, retail and luxury brands, SMEs and public and third sector bodies.

Neil Kennedy, Managing Partner said: “As an independent Scottish law firm, to be recognised at this level is an outstanding achievement. We are immensely proud of our real estate team and this award is testament to the high quality clients, projects and talent that we have at MacRoberts.”

This is the third consecutive year that MacRoberts has been recognised at the British Legal Awards, having previously been Highly Commended in the Commercial Team of the Year category in 2016 and shortlisted again in the same category in 2017.

On the same night in Glasgow, Senior Solicitor in Construction, Rebecca Barrass, was crowned Junior Lawyer of the Year at the prestigious Law Awards of Scotland.

A key member of the firm’s construction team, Rebecca specialises in contentious construction and advises clients in both the public and private sector in relation to complex and challenging construction matters.

Neil said: “Since Rebecca joined us as a trainee, she has always shown total commitment to the firm – going way above and beyond what is expected of her. From her success and relationships with clients, to her work on the firm’s Diversity & Wellbeing Forum and the MacRoberts Young Construction Network, she is a valued member of the team and I am delighted that her hard work has been recognised at a national level”.

These awards come during a prosperous year for MacRoberts. The acquisition of Yuill + Kyle in December 2017 saw the firm strengthen its debt recovery offering, whilst Neil Kennedy was appointed as Managing Partner of the firm in May 2018 and Euan Duncan as Chair earlier this month. The firm has recently posted its accounts revealing that profit, turnover and staff headcount are all up on last year’s figures.
