Stagecoach Support Drivewise Initiative In East Fife

• Over 120 school pupils have received driver safety training
• Stagecoach driver Alistair Smith assisted with driving tuition
• Drivewise is committed to reducing the number of injuries and fatal collisions in Scotland

Bus company Stagecoach is supporting an important new initiative in East Fife, which has so far delivered driver safety training to over 120 school pupils.

4th year students from local schools are educated on how to drive and provided with vital road safety knowledge during the highly successful Drivewise course, which is currently being held at Leuchars Station (formerly RAF Leuchars).

The project also aims to teach young people how to be a responsible passenger on all forms of public transport.

Working with Safer Travel Liaison Officer Graeme Walker, Stagecoach driver Alistair Smith has been on hand to assist with driving tuition for the roll-out of the project in East Fife. The company is also providing free transport for school pupils attending the events.

Pupils from Madras College, Bell Baxter High School and Waid Academy have taken part so far.

With backing from all blue-light services including Police Scotland, Drivewise is committed to providing a variety of educational programmes to reduce the number of road-related injuries and fatal collisions in Scotland. The project was first launched in the Scottish Borders in 2016 and recently won the Road Safety in the Community Award at the 2018 Brake Fleet Safety Awards.
