Crosbie Matthew Funeral Directors share how they have adapted

10th April 2020

Crosbie Matthew acknowledge that the Coronavirus crisis places additional and unprecedented pressure on families in their time of need.

During this time more than any other, they wanted to reassure people that their commitment to caring for bereaved families and their loved ones remains the priority throughout this period of uncertainly and disruption.

Sheila Matthew, Managing Director says “Having supported generations of local families for over 80 years, we will continue to do so despite the restrictions currently affecting all communities and businesses across the area. Yes, our procedures are changing but professionalism, empathy and support remain at the heart of what we do.”

Sheila went on to say "If a loved one has passed away, there is always someone to take your call at Crosbie Matthew, 24 hours a day.

With the restrictions in place we are offering our Simple Funeral Package to families to ensure that you are only charged for the help we are able to give you at this time.

Although both our Rosyth and Dalgety Bay premises are temporarily closed, we are working behind-the-scenes from our funeral homes in Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.

We are currently unable to provide funeral services within our family rooms and church services are also suspended. Crematoriums are currently allowing a maximum of 6 close family to attend cremation and burial services but may soon require to change their policies. We are still able to provide an order of service sheet for those present and extras for you to take away.

We can talk through funeral arrangements by phone, FaceTime, Whatsapp or video-conferencing, ensuring that families gain the support and clarity they need.

Meanwhile, we also provide free bereavement counselling to those struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one, especially at this particularly challenging time. Up to six free counselling sessions, which can be used by one person or split between various members of a family, can be offered by a qualified bereavement counsellor, via telephone, online chat or email."

Sheila added, “We are accustomed to supporting our clients at their most vulnerable but we’re acutely aware that the current situation is adding an additional and unnatural pressure on our families who are now unable to give their loved one the goodbye they had perhaps planned. Talking these emotions through with a qualified bereavement counselling can help ease that pain and provide support and advice both now and in the longer term.”

More information will be given to you after the funeral.

Memorial Services

Due to current Government restrictions placed on the format of funerals, you may wish to consider holding a memorial service later in the year. As well as providing a fitting and personalised commemoration for your loved one, memorial services will allow wider friends and family to gather and pay their respects.

Once again, we are here to talk you through the options and support you in your choices.

Please note that further restrictions may evolve in the weeks ahead – for the latest information and advice, please visit our website www.crosbiematthew.co.uk, Facebook page or telephone 01592 640644.
