Worldwide Demand For McDonald Hot Water Cylinders

30th December 2020

A special order this week has highlighted the worldwide demand for McDonald hot water cylinders, with a delivery of a Grade 1 copper cylinder to Seattle, Washington.

The cylinder was manufactured for one of the University of Washington’s School of Oceanography fleet, the RV Rachel Carson. The ship is used for underwater researchers and students to explore waters in Puget Sound and the nearby coasts and provides better hands-on instruction.

The 72-foot RV Rachel Carson was originally built as a fisheries research vessel in Scotland back in 2002 by MacDuff shipyards, and was originally fitted with one of our cylinders. When a new cylinder was required they contacted us to bespoke manufacture the 95 litre replacement cylinder. They advised they had come back to McDonald Water Storage, even with the additional shipping costs incurred, for our expertise in copper cylinder manufacture which was a fantastic testament to the company.
