Digital funding highlighted at Chamber members’ meeting with Scottish Government

The Digital Development Loan allows companies to borrow between £5000 and £100000 for up to five years. It can be used to improve digital capacity and capability, and also covers staff digital skills development. It has been introduced by the Scottish Government to improve economic productivity.

The members and Ms Forbes met at the Carnegie Conference Centre for a productive discussion on the increasing importance of digital technology and the barriers that prevent companies fully adopting it. The barriers include poor awareness about what technology is available and how it can be used to improve the business, not knowing where to get support or not having any money available for it.

The Digital Development Loan has been introduced by the Scottish Government specifically to address this latter point, and the Minister is keen to see many more businesses in Fife take advantage of it.

The Digital economy will also be to the fore at the President’s Lunch at Keavil House Hotel on 28th May when Jane Wood, Director UK and Regions at BT Group, discusses digital skills during her keynote address. Scotland has a digital skills gap and it will undermine the country’s economic performance if it isn’t tackled.
