Online event celebrates School College Partnership success

16th July 2020

School pupils from across Fife were honoured during a virtual celebration event held by Fife College.

The event recognised the achievements of pupils who took part in a School College Partnership (SCP) course as part of their 2019/20 school timetable.

Pupils were invited to join the event which featured video welcomes from key members of the SCP team as well as case studies from other pupils who discussed their experience of working through a SCP course.

Two pupils from each participating school, one from S4 group and one from the S5/6 group, were then revealed as winners of a certificate and a gift voucher in special recognition of their achievements.

The SCP programme gives pupils the opportunity to attain vocational qualifications at the college as part of their school timetable.

The courses support senior phase pupils to progress through qualifications up to SCQF level 7, the equivalent of Higher National Certificate (HNC), which can see them move into the first years of a degree, all while still in school.

Over 860 young people, from all 18 secondary schools in Fife, enrolled on a SCP course during the 2019/20 school year with 96% stating they were satisfied with their College course experience.

95% also said that they felt the course had equipped them with important knowledge and skills for their future workplace.

Award-winning pupil, Jessica Mills from Waid Academy in Anstruther, was one of those who shared their experience during the event. Jessica, who is going on to study childcare at Glasgow Caledonian University later this year, completed a Higher Childcare & Development through the partnership programme.

Jessica said: “I strongly believe that the course provided me with an excellent foundation layer to my future studies of child nursing. Not only did the course provide me with important knowledge that will give me a head start to my learning at university but it also gave me a chance to grow in confidence and develop my passion for working with children and young people.

“I would highly encourage others to take part in SCP courses as they are easy to attend through school and an excellent opportunity to learn about something new. The course was definitely the highlight of my week and I thank Fife College for giving me the opportunity to take part.”

Iain Hawker, Assistant Principal – Quality and Academic Partnerships at Fife College, said:

“Congratulations to all of the pupils who took part in the School College Partnership programme this year. Each pupil demonstrated a fantastic commitment to their course throughout the programme and they should all be proud of their achievements, especially given the challenging circumstances of the last few months.

“Thanks to all schools, school staff and Fife Council colleagues for working in partnership with us on the programme again this year that provide pupils in Fife with access to a wider curriculum choice to meet their career and future aspirations. We wish all pupils that participated all the best for the future.”
