3rd June 2020

McDonald Water Storage is celebrating its 75th anniversary this month. Having transformed from its beginnings in the world of engineering, it became known worldwide for its plumbing systems.

When World War Two broke out, the firm moved into the production of aircraft wings and it was to be as the war ended, they turned their attention to manufacturing copper hot water cylinders, for which there was a large demand with the rebuilding after the war. This developed into complete plumbing systems exported all over the world, including Australia, Brazil and the Middle East.

75 years on, and the business is involved in the response to the coronavirus pandemic, and recently supplied bespoke hot water tanks to a COVID-19 hub in Orkney. This is one of the business’ wide range of products, which also boasts unvented cylinders, thermal storage, rectangular units and commercial calorifiers amongst its best sellers.

Managing Director, Jamie Stewart, who along with his brother, Chairman, Bill Stewart and more recently his nephew, Sales Director, Jamie Stewart, have grown McDonald Water Storage, whilst adhering to the principles established all those years ago. Jamie explains: “It is our principles established by the original McDonald company 75 years ago, that is at the heart of everything we do – superior quality, great service and value for money.”

Coinciding with this significant milestone, McDonald Water Storage has launched a new website and continues to innovate and invest. During the COVID-19 lockdown, it launched WHEELIflow, a temporary emergency hot water solution, as well as invested in new machinery for making copper coils.
