Connecting businesses to new customers during COVID-19 – a local initiative

5th May 2020

LocalToYourDoor.co.uk, a new website to help local businesses find new customers during lockdown, has been launched by Cupar-based Horisk Leslie Development.

Like many businesses Horisk wanted to help the local community during the Covid-19 crisis. Relatives and friends were having problems finding local businesses who can offer delivery and collection, and many businesses are struggling to let people know that they are open and the best way to contact them.

Brian Horisk, Director said “We wanted to do something to help the community during the Covid-19 crisis, and when my own in-laws were having trouble finding shops to deliver, we knew there was a real need for this. I know lots of businesses are worried about how to survive in these times and I realised we had to do something and do it quickly. I’ve been really pleased that the whole team have been keen to be involved and have put in the hours to get this live in such a short space of time”.

The site is free to use for both customers and businesses and provides a central resource allowing businesses in any sector to create their own listing and tell their own story, and for people to find and support their local businesses. The Horisk team have provided the technical know-how to build and host the site, and hope that local businesses and business groups will come on board and help promote it to the benefit of the whole business community. Every listing features a contact form so users can contact businesses directly and automatically generated social media buttons to make it easy for users and businesses to spread the word.

There are a number of lists online, but Horisk felt they could use their web development skills to produce something much more user friendly. The listings are properly categorised and searchable, are maintained by the businesses themselves and allow customers to display just those businesses which deliver to them.

Local To Your Door started covering just Fife, but due to demand a version covering Dundee and Angus has also been launched.

Businesses can register and create their free listing at https://localtoyourdoor.co.uk/

For those businesses without a website or who don't currently offer online ordering, Horisk can add simple online ordering if there is demand for it.

Iain Leslie, Director said “We’ve been heartened by the really positive response to this project from lots of businesses and organisations across Fife and Tayside. The more businesses we can add to the site the more useful it will be – both for local people and for local businesses”.
