Fife College nominated for UK College of the Year award

23rd April 2021

Fife College has been nominated for the prestigious UK College of the Year Award at the 2021 TES FE Awards.

The award recognises Colleges whose imagination and passion have led to high-quality provision in all areas – with judges saying that they were looking for Colleges that provided a high-quality curriculum with excellent student outcomes, reflected in strong recruitment and success rates in 2019-20.

Although the 2019-20 academic year brought challenges due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Fife College pulled out the stops to keep learning going and introduced new courses to help anyone impacted by the pandemic to reskill and retrain.

The percentage of students happy with their Fife College experience remained high despite the pandemic, with 94% saying they were satisfied with their course, and good outcomes in the number of students successfully completing their course.

The College has also been shortlisted in the Professional Services Team of the Year category, recognising the success of the Digital Services Team in transforming the College’s digital environment in recent years.

The Team’s response to the pandemic was highlighted in particular as going above and beyond so that students could continue their learning online, including purchasing and distributing 3000 Chromebooks to those students who needed them.

Speaking about the nomination, Fife College Principal Dr Hugh Hall said:

"Over the past year, the commitment and dedication of our staff has been awesome.

"They have pulled out all of the stops to deliver our curriculum and support our students despite the tough challenges of the pandemic.

“To have this work recognised with a nomination for the best College in the UK award is a huge boost.”

Julia Belgutay, the Head of Further Education at TES said:

“Further education providers have excelled in what has been a truly challenging year, and the amazing individuals, teams and institutions on our Tes FE Awards shortlist showcase that.

“Our judges were highly impressed with the calibre of entries and I want to congratulate everyone who has made the shortlist – it is a brilliant achievement".
