Fife College students have been given an insight into how to succeed in the games industry after hearing from expert David Goutcher.
David is the founder of Polybius Games, a Scottish based software development company, which has built a state of the art augmented reality mobile app platform that has a capability to create millions of personalised, location specific games worldwide.
David spoke to students in an online lecture about how he entered the games industry, and how he built up his company to what it is today.
He also spoke about the skill sets those wanting to work in the industry need, and the importance of the qualifications they were currently studying towards at Fife College.
Afterwards students were given the chance to ask David questions about his career and the industry as a whole.
David Goutcher, Managing Director of Polybius Games said:
“It was great being able to talk to some of the students at Fife College about my experience in the games industry.
“It’s a competitive environment, and I was happy to speak to them about how I’d manage to set-up and grow my own businesses into what it has become today.
“These students will be the next generation of games developers in Scotland, and hopefully I was able to help them on their way to a successful career.
“The questions they had for me at the end were really insightful, and it’s clear to see their course at Fife College is setting them up well for the future.”
Dean Gartshore, an HND Digital Design student at Fife College said:
“Hearing from David was really interesting, and gave a great insight into how the games industry works.
“He talked about the importance of having the right attitude, how to create a portfolio of work to show to potential employers and stressed how you should never give up on what you want to achieve.
“Thanks to David I’ve now got even more motivation to pursue my dream career in games design and creation.
“The course at Fife College had already provided me with a lot of really useful knowledge and experience, and talks from experts such as David mean that I’ll be in an even better position to get a job when I start to apply in 18 months’ time.”
