Scottish Government extends manufacturing recovery plan consultation to February

The Scottish Government is consulting on ‘Making Scotland's Future’, a draft recovery plan for manufacturing which proposes a set of actions for delivery over the next 12 months that has been designed with industry, public sector, trade union and academia. Since original publication of the draft recovery plan on 4th December 2020, the consultation period has been extended and will now close on 12th February 2021. This decision is in response to early feedback from industry stakeholders to accommodate the priorities of businesses. A final Recovery Plan and list of actions is now expected for publication in March 2021. The length of extension been agreed by all partners as reasonable and will not impact on the wider delivery of the actions in the Recovery Plan.

Commenting on the extension of the consultation period, Alan Mitchell, Chief Executive of Fife Chamber, said: “This is a sensible and pragmatic decision. We need a vibrant manufacturing sector to drive long-term economic recovery and it is important the whole sector contributes its views to make sure the recovery plan is robust and effective. That will be challenging for many manufacturers just now as they grapple with lockdown rules and get used to the new EU/UK border and trade rules. Extending the consultation will give them more time to review and comment on the recovery plan.”
