Furniture scholarship awards help build brighter future for students

13th July 2021

Three Fife College students have received a boost after becoming the latest recipients of the Claremont Office Furniture Scholarship.

Awarded through the College’s Adam Smith Foundation, the scholarship is offered by Glasgow based Claremont Office Furniture to support Furniture and Interior Design students with their studies.

This year’s recipients, Jade-Lauren Stewart, Tiffani Ferrier, and David McCafferty have each been awarded a share of £2,000 through the scholarship, now in its third year.

HNC 3D Interior Design student Jade-Lauren Stewart’s scholarship award will be a huge help to her following recent health problems. Jade-Lauren, from Kirkcaldy, said:

“The scholarship really means a lot. It will benefit me going forward because I unfortunately had a serious decline in health that’s left my mobility affected.

“The award will allow me to pay towards driving lessons that specialise in the type of vehicle I can drive to help give me back my independence. This will help me get to the college much easier and get my son to nursery, both of which will be big steps for me.”

Jade-Lauren’s classmate on the 3D Interior Design course Tiffani Ferrier also plans to use her award to help fund driving lessons. Tiffani, also from Kirkcaldy, said:

“I was in absolute in shock about it. I can now finally get driving lessons so I will be able to move onto university when the time comes.

“I will not have to worry about buses or trains getting me there on time, and I will no longer fear missing opportunities because I can’t be at a certain place because transport won’t get me there.”

Third scholarship winner, HND Furniture student David McCafferty, from Glenrothes, said:

“It was brilliant to hear I had been awarded the scholarship. The money will help me develop Fife Craft Shed, a small wood crafting business I started when I finished my HNC.”
