College’s Prince’s Trust group scoops Social Enterprise Team of the Year prize

4th June 2021

Fife College’s Prince’s Trust student group has beaten off competition from colleges across Scotland to be named Social Enterprise Team of the Year.

The group has been recognised at Young Enterprise Scotland’s Bridge 2 Business - Enterprise Educator Awards 2021 for their work to create a guide for Care Experienced students.

The group, many of whom are Care Experienced themselves, carried out research and surveys of other students which led to the creation of an informative flyer for Care Experienced students detailing support available to them.

The flyers were then included in rucksacks which were prepared as part of the College’s drive to provide students from a care or looked-after background with as much support as possible, especially given that fewer of them have been on campus due to the Coronavirus restrictions.

Young Enterprise Scotland’s Bridge 2 Business ’Enterprise Educator Awards’ are a celebration of ‘all things enterprise’ across FE colleges in Scotland. The awards recognise and reward students, educators and individuals who are leading the way in enterprise across Scotland.

Susan McGuire, the Care Experience Co-ordinator at Fife College said:

“We are so proud of this group of students. Prior to this enterprise none of them had any experiencing of producing anything like this they did so to not only create a fantastic resource for fellow students but for that work to become award-winning is amazing.

“At Fife College we do all we can to provide support and guidance to our Care Experienced students, so we are delighted to see this group, many of whom are Care Experienced themselves, receive national recognition for their work to support fellow students.”

The Princes Trust Team Programme is an employability and personal development course which, alongside giving students practical skills, also awards a National 4 qualification upon completion.

The Team Programme is run by Fife College in conjunction with the Princes Trust for those aged 16-25 who are looking for a brighter future. It offers the opportunity to improve motivation, qualifications, confidence, and existing talents while learning new skills.

The course includes a community project, team building activities, work placement and CV writing and job application workshops.
