Welcome boost for EU/UK trade as European Commission issues draft acceptance of UK data rules
2nd March 2021
The European Commission has issued a draft ruling that recognise the UK’s high data protection standards and set out that the UK should be found ‘adequate’. It follow months of discussions and pave the way for continued free flow of data between the EU and the UK. The EU will now complete the technical approval process, which must be finalised by the end of June when the previously agreed extension of the current approval will end. Significantly more data than physical goods crosses between the UK and the EU every year, so this is an important decision that will keep it flowing freely.
