Alfresco venue’s return is to everyone’s Advantage

25th May 2021

An attraction that earned rave reviews last year is making a comeback at a popular Fife venue.

A taste of summer is returning to Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith Theatre with the reopening of its alfresco café and bar, The Advantage.

The buzz is building for a relaunch this Friday (28 May) that features a strong cast of Fife-based food and drink producers.

Visitors to the twice-weekly café/bar can expect starring roles from Kirkcaldy’s very own Buffalo Farm.

St Andrews too will have its name in lights with St Andrews Brewing Co and Eden Mill Gin.

The Advantage is a great family-friendly place, overlooking the town’s Memorial Gardens, where customers can enjoy coffee, breakfast, lunch, drinks or cakes

It will open at the front of the theatre on Fridays and Saturdays until September – and if the weather isn’t performing, the café will move indoors. There’s plenty of capacity and there’s no need to book.

The café/bar takes its name from the economic theory of absolute advantage put forward by Kirkcaldy’s most famous son, the 18th century economist and philosopher Adam Smith.

The Advantage will operate fully in line with Scottish Government guidelines and appropriate social distancing and there will also be a takeaway option.

Says catering operations manager Andy Gernon: “With lockdown easing and better days upon us, now’s the perfect time to sample the many delights we have on offer.”

OnFife’s chief operating officer Marcus Kenyon adds: “We were blown away by the support we received last summer and that’s something everyone’s really looking forward to seeing again.”
