Police Scotland take to the track!
The Institute of Advanced Motorists, in partnership with Transport Scotland and Police Scotland, ran their first "Dust Off Your Leathers" event today - designed to help riders refresh and develop their riding skills using their own motorcycle.
Led by IAM RoadSmart qualified instructors, the day gave the chance for IAM members to practice key techniques in a safe, controlled environment of the track, away from the pressures of public roads.
The day consisted of circuit-based riding and practical workshops, including:
A practical session focused on machine handling, building confidence when manoeuvring your motorcycle at slow speeds. Immediate roadside lifesaving first aid, delivered by a medical professional, so you know what to do if you come across a collision.
A hands-on session covering motorcycle care, including checks on electrics, oil, tyres, suspension, and chains.
A session explaining how motorcycle brakes work and how to use them effectively.
Stuart Gray, Knockhill Director of Events said, "It is great to see the venue being used in this way. Normally riders are chasing that last tenth of a second when lapping, but this day was for the road rider and will keep them, and other road users safer. There are so many hazards to contend with on the roads, but using Knockhill as a training circuit, where techniques can be practiced over and over again, it allowed riders to develop and understand their own riding skill set and safely apply that to the road riding".
