International Export Documentation
Some of the documents you might need to export include:
Certificate of Origin
A Certificate of Origin is a signed statement certifying where an exported item was made. It is a customs clearance requirement in some countries to evidence the origin of the goods. Often required to comply with banking requirements where trade is conducted under Letters of Credit.
A EUR1 Movement Certificate
This is used to support claims for preferential (usually zero) rates of duty in the country of importation. To qualify, the goods must 'originate' in the UK and be supported by a correctly completed and endorsed EUR1. The preference system only applies to countries where certain trade agreements exist with the UK.
Verification of Signature
Some customs may need the signature on official documents to be verified as an authentic signature. Sometimes referred to as “Chamber Stamped”.
Commercial Invoice
A Commercial Invoice provides information to the customs authorities of your destination country. Your Commercial Invoice will allow them to evaluate what your goods are, their value, whether they're able to be imported and whether they'll need any level of control. Every export shipment must have a Commercial Invoice.
Packing list
A packing list is a document that tells the customs officer what is contained in your international shipment
UK Export Licence
A licence might be required for some goods, such as firearms or medicine. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you're unsure whether you need a licence.
Local Regulations
It's important to know whether the particular country you're exporting to has any special regulations that will require additional documentation to satisfy. Again, it's always best to talk to one of our international team at Fife Chamber of Commerce for some advice and ensure you're meeting all of the regulations.
Dangerous Goods
If your international shipments contain dangerous goods, you'll need some special additional paperwork.
Insurance
Particularly if you're passing on the cost to the customer, you may need to take out and provide proof of insurance.
In every case, it's also advisable to communicate with your customer to double-check you've fulfilled all documentation requirements for the importing country. You may have to fill out other information before shipping on an Automated Export System.
