Business Award for Fife College’s Adam Smith Foundation
The Adam Smith Foundation, which awards scholarships to students of Fife College, has won a prestigious business award from College Development Network.
The Business Awards, held recently at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, recognised the input that the Foundation has made to building successful relationships, enterprising culture and creating alternative funding opportunities which meet the needs of students and the local community.
The Foundation, which was established in 1997 and which Fife College is committed to supporting to improve and extend opportunities for students, has disbursed over 967 scholarships and awarded nearly half a million pounds since it was created.
The scholarship programme is supported by a wide range of donors, individuals, companies and organisations including artist Jack Vettriano, author Ian Rankin, Diageo and Shell.
Trust Fundraiser, Gaynor Jarrett was accompanied by Vice Principal of Fife College Dorothée Leslie, to the award ceremony to collect the Highly Commended award. Said Gaynor: “We are delighted to win this award and to be recognised for the great work that the Foundation and the Trustees carry out to support Fife College students.
“As far as we are aware, the Adam Smith Foundation is the only college scholarship awards programme of its kind in Scotland - it is sector leading and a great business model which makes a significant difference to those students who are awarded. Donors benefit too as it helps them to meet their corporate social responsibilities and enhance employer engagement and community relations.
“Our most recent scholarship, the Russell Trust, the largest of our scholarships has just shared £15,000 amongst 71 students to assist them with their future studies and careers. These scholarships not only recognise students for their achievements but also assist students with one-off payments and enable network and career opportunities which can transform lives.”
The Adam Smith Foundation also raises funds through legacy donations and is working on a range of other initiatives to enhance funding opportunities for students in 2017 and beyond.
