Fife College's Boom Radio ready for relaunch

2nd December 2021

Fife College’s student radio station, Boom Radio, is ready to relaunch from 9am tomorrow (Friday) after a renovation to their studios.

The station has briefly been off air while the College renovated two radio studios, which now include band-new industry standard software and hardware.

The new technology gives students and staff the opportunity to record shows for the station from anywhere in the world, and with extreme ease.

The facilities will also be used to help train those on the Radio Broadcast Media courses, and are part of the College's commitment to provide the most up-to-date training and expertise for students.

And it's been students on the Higher National Diploma (HND) course who have been at the center of the relaunch of Boom Radio, as they will be responsible for the management of the station going forward.

One of those students is David Forsyth, who's looking forward to using the new facilities available to them in the studio. He said:

“The newly refurbished studios look fantastic, and I can't wait to start broadcasting from them.

"They've got some amazing pieces of kit, and the new software opens up a whole new range of possibilities for us to broadcast.

"Boom Radio gives students at the College real-life experience of working in a radio environment while learning our craft.

"It's a great opportunity, and if any other students want to get involved we'd love to hear their ideas."

Music will be a big part of Boom Radio, but the student presenters will also discuss a range of different topics from current affairs and trends to College news and updates.

Radio Broadcast student Owen Laing, who will be presenting on the station, said:

"People can expect the biggest and best music all the way from the 60s to the present day, as well as some fantastic shows from our great student presenters.

"We want them to bring their own personalities to each of their shows while delivering content designed for the students of Fife College.

"This is very much a radio station run by students, for students, so we're keen to hear from people studying here to make sure we cover the issues they want to talk about."

Boom Radio is broadcast during College hours throughout the academic year, and listeners can tune in through their social media sites @BoomRadioScotland on Twitter and Instagram, and DropTheBoom on Facebook.
