Five Years of Collaboration: Briggs Marine and Irish Ferries Mark Continued Partnership

Briggs Marine is marking five years of collaboration with Irish Ferries, reflecting a period of reliable operational support, contract renewals and wider activity across the English Channel.

Since being awarded its initial contract at the Port of Dover in 2021, Briggs Marine has provided port services in support of Irish Ferries’ operations, delivering safe and efficient services at one of Europe’s busiest maritime gateways.

This success has also positioned Briggs Marine for future growth, with the company now exploring opportunities to expand its port and terminal operations across continental Europe.

Operating 24/7 at Dover, Briggs Marine provides a range of port and terminal services for Irish Ferries, including stevedoring, linkspan operations, terminal plant management, customs and freight administration.

Supporting cross-Channel services

A further milestone came in September 2024 with Briggs Marine’s acquisition of French port services company SCANCO, which operates in Calais and Cherbourg.

SCANCO’s services are closely aligned to Briggs Marine’s Dover operations, including vessel turnaround support and terminal operations, helping to provide consistency across both sides of the Channel.

The integration gives Briggs Marine a broader operating platform across the UK and mainland Europe, with the ability to support ferry operators in more than one market.

Iain Ross, Director of Port and Marine Services, Briggs Marine, said:

“Our working relationship with Irish Ferries over the past five years shows what can be achieved through collaboration, trust and a shared commitment to operational excellence.

The renewal of our contracts reflects that relationship and the dedication of our teams in Dover and across France.

As we look ahead, we see opportunities to build on this success and further expand our presence across the region.

The acquisition of SCANCO has been a significant step in our growth, allowing us to extend our proven approach into continental Europe. As we look ahead, we see exciting opportunities to build on this success and further expand our presence across the region.”
