Glenrothes Coffee Roaster Supports Local Families in Charity Pledge

9th December 2021

Modern Standard Coffee, a speciality coffee roastery, will provide to two local Glenrothes charities the help and support they need this Christmas with dedicated donations as part of its ongoing programme of community support.

The donation, (just over £1600 in total) will allow the two charities, Fife Gingerbread Trust and Muirhead Outreach Project, to purchase Christmas gifts for children this year.

Modern Standard was founded by Lynsey Harley in 2015 and is one of the few female-founded and run coffee businesses in the UK. Lynsey sources beans direct from award winning producers located in Africa, Central and South America. The award-winning seasonal coffee and hot chocolate products are available direct to customers including flexible subscription services and Modern Standard is also available to wholesale clients.

Lynsey said, ‘Modern Standard was built on the very foundations of support for the community and environment, and as a team we are delighted that we can help especially at a time that can be difficult for many people. We were inspired by both Gingerbread Trust and Muirhead Outreach, who do incredible work in our community, and we are delighted to support them."

Fife Gingerbread Trust seeks to empower lone parents and families in need to promote their wellbeing, providing holistic support through various projects to overcome barriers such as poverty, isolation, trauma, and poor mental health.

Linsey Proctor, Fife Gingerbread said, "I was absolutely blown away when I looked at our donations. £25 goes to a family if they need help heating their children’s rooms, so that’s 40 families you have helped keep warm this Winter. You really have made a difference to what we can offer this year. Our Heat and Eat appeal donations support emergency situations throughout the year, and we are delighted to have the support of Modern Standard Coffee right here in Fife’.

The Muirhead Outreach Project works with young people and their families, offering a sense of belonging, achievement, and providing a realisation that life can be good. In this way, it aims to prevent children being taken into care.

Janine Norris, Charity Development Officer at The Muirhead Outreach Project said, “We are so grateful to local businesses for their support. It’s because of the generosity of companies like Modern Standard Coffee, that we can do anything at all. This donation will make life that bit brighter for children and families in Glenrothes, giving them the Christmas, they deserve. We greatly appreciate their support”.

Both charities are close to Lynsey’s heart as they are based in her hometown of Glenrothes in Fife where the roastery is based. Modern Standard follows the same ethical principles of responsibility year-round including their donation of annual sales to environmental non-profit organisations, which includes providing coffee chaff, a roastery biproduct, to their local community garden and ‘Trees for Cities’ as compost to add nutrients to soil.
