IT Centric Hosts Apprentice for the Day Challenge
We were delighted to participate in the #ApprenticefortheDay18 challenge earlier this week. On Monday we welcomed Gordon Macdonald MSP to our office, who spent the afternoon as part of our IT support team.
Gordon was introduced to the team and given an overview of the managed IT services which we provide. During his visit he spent the afternoon shadowing our apprentice, Daryl Hunter, to gain an insight into the life of an IT support technician. Gordon was provided with a demo of the software platforms and innovative technologies used to provide IT support & services to our customers. The experience provided a window into the benefits of work place learning and the important contribution that apprenticeships make to developing a dynamic workforce.
Following his visit Gordon Macdonald said:
“I would like to thank IT Centric for inviting me along to complete my Apprentice for the Day challenge and for giving me the chance to find out more about how apprentices are supporting the technology industry, helping Edinburgh on its way to becoming the Data Capital of Europe. Ensuring that Scotland has a workforce equipped with the skills and training required to
support the rapidly growing IT industry in Scotland is vitally important to our economy. The Skills Development Scotland apprenticeships are playing a big part in making sure we maximise the talent and potential of Scotland’s booming technology industry.”
The initiative was launched by Skills Development Scotland to raise awareness of the contribution which apprentices make to Scotland’s economy. The latest annual statistics from Skills Development Scotland show that there were 27,145 Modern Apprenticeship starts in 2017-18. At IT Centric we have been supporting the Modern Apprentice Scheme since 2011 and at the start of this year welcomed our 5th apprentice to the team.
