K107FM Celebrates Seventh Consecutive Community Radio Awards Nomination

Kirkcaldy's K107FM is celebrating after being named a finalist in the national Community Radio Awards for the seventh year in a row.

The volunteer-led station has been shortlisted in the Celebrating & Championing Community Radio of the Year category for its ambitious "Every Day is Local Radio Day" project.

The nomination recognises a special Local Radio Day broadcast led by Alex Airnes and Jayne Smith, which brought together guests from across Kirkcaldy and Fife to showcase the impact of community radio and highlight the work of local organisations.

During two extended live programmes, listeners heard from councillors, MSPs, charity leaders, event organisers, volunteers community groups and Lang Toun Partners, creating what the station described as a celebration of local voices and community spirit. The broadcasts also explored the importance of community radio and called for greater support for the sector in Scotland.

Alex Airnes, who coordinated the project and co-presented the broadcasts, said:

"We're absolutely delighted to receive this nomination. To be recognised nationally for the seventh consecutive year is a fantastic achievement for our volunteers and everyone involved with the station.

"Local Radio Day gave us the chance to do what K107FM does best, bringing people together, sharing community stories and giving local organisations a platform to reach audiences across Kirkcaldy and West Fife.

"I'm especially pleased that the work of Jayne Smith and our wider volunteer team has been recognised through this nomination."

The Community Radio Awards, now celebrating their tenth anniversary, recognise excellence in community broadcasting across the UK.

Winners will be announced at the national awards ceremony on 24 October following the National Community Radio Conference in Birmingham.

For K107FM, the latest nomination extends an impressive run of national recognition. Since 2020, the Kirkcaldy based station has secured 23 national Community Radio Award nominations and multiple award wins across seven consecutive years, making it one of the most consistently recognised community radio stations in Scotland and one of a relatively small number of UK stations to achieve sustained national recognition year after year.

This further demonstrates a track record of excellence in volunteer-led broadcasting, community engagement and local storytelling, and ties in with this years nomination – proving every day is local radio day for K107FM
