Provost of Fife Helps Support Fife College Trip to Germany
Fife College students are jetting off to Germany this summer to take part in an international sporting event with support from Provost, Jim Leishman!
To help raise funds for the trip, the College has organised a ‘From Ball to Chain’ event, an activity evening with Fife’s Lord Provost and former footballer and manager, Jim Leishman. The event is designed to raise funds for the Fife Olympiad trip to Böblingen in July which will see 172 pupils from high schools across Fife and Fife College students compete against athletes from a variety of different countries including, Italy, Turkey, Austria and France. The competitors will take part in various sports such as, swimming, football, athletics, badminton and tennis.
The fundraiser will be held on Thursday 23rd March 2017 from 7pm at the College’s Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline. Jim will help use the event to inspire others and talk about his own career and how you should always aim to be the best you can be: whether that is in sport, work or life in general.
Jim will also discuss the work of The Mary Leishman Foundation, a charity that commemorates the life, work and musical theatre involvement of Jim’s late wife, Mary Leishman and he will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Head of Academy of Hair, Beauty and Sport and Fitness at Fife College, Christina Laing said: “I am delighted that Jim Leishman has offered to host this fantastic event to help support the Fife Olympiad and Fife College students. All the students are extremely excited to hear about Jim’s success and I know it will inspire them to do their very best at the event in Germany.”
The Fife Olympiad's aims are to provide the opportunity for young people to be chosen to represent Fife and compete at an Olympic style event in a different town in Europe every three years.
Stovies and oatcakes will be served during the evening and a raffle will be drawn towards the end of the event.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from Lorna Craig tel: 01383 845038 or email [email protected]. The Fife Olympiad also appreciates any donations that could be made to support them. This can be made through their JustGiving page- Justgiving.com/fife-olympiadsociety.
