Two new BCC appointments - Director of Campaigns and Director of Policy
British Chambers of Commerce have appointed two new directors in the Policy and Campaigns functions.
Alex Veitch joins as Director of Policy and Public Affairs, with responsibility for the Policy, Research and Public Affairs teams. Alex will be working with the team and the Network to develop our proactive and reactive advocacy agenda.
Alex is joining BCC from Logistics UK, where he is currently Deputy Director - Public Policy, responsible for policy issues affecting UK supply chains including Brexit, Environment and Skills. Previously Alex worked in various leadership roles in the transport and sustainability sectors in the UK and overseas, including:
•Head of Sustainability for the global association of railways (UIC) in Paris;
•EU policy lead for the Rail Delivery Group; and
•Transport Strategy Manager at the Energy Saving Trust.
Alex started his career as an environmental campaigner for the Sierra Club in Washington DC. Alex is currently Vice Chair of Trustees at Living Streets, the national charity for everyday walking, and is a Chartered Member of CILT, IEMA and CMI.
Balshen Izzet joins as Director of Campaigns, with responsibility for the Media and Marketing teams. Bal will be working across BCC to develop our proactive campaigning activity incorporating our policy and commercial activity.
Bal is a communications and public affairs professional with 20 years’ experience. She has worked in government for multiple departments, including HM Treasury, for the Shadow Chancellor and for national charities, including as CEO for a charity for stammering children, of which she remains a trustee.
More recently she has worked for a government regulator leading the communications for the fourth National Lottery Licence Competition.
