Career Ready seeking business mentors for its 2021 programme
Career Ready is a national charity that brings together schools and businesses to give S5/S6 school pupils career support, experiences, and insights to kick-start their futures. It is very active in Fife. It runs in 16 of the region’s secondary schools, and works with businesses of all types and sizes, who provide mentoring and a paid internship over a two-year programme.
Career Ready works with very specific students in the school: those whose future education and work paths aren’t clear and who need some additional support and guidance to make informed decisions. Most of the business mentors are lined up for the next programme but a few more are required to ensure that all the students who have signed up to take part get the level of support that they deserve and need.
Alan Mitchell, Chief Executive of Fife Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Career Ready Fife Advisory Board, said: “The next programme launches in December 2020 and Mhairi the Career Ready co-ordinator in Fife needs some additional mentors. Of course participating takes time but every local business that has taken part that I have spoken to have said they really enjoyed it and they got an awful lot of satisfaction from participating. Career Ready might or might not be right for your business, but I would urge you to at least speak to Mhairi to find out more about what it involves before you make a final decision. What’s the cost of a 10-minute phone call set against the future life and career opportunities of a young person?”
