Fife Chamber’s Board Welcomes New Directors
Fife Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of five new directors at its recent 2017 Annual General Meeting.
Working alongside the existing eleven board members, the new directors will contribute their business experience and specific sector expertise to the Chamber’s efforts, in order to assist Fife’s businesses through the challenges of the coming year.
The new faces join from a variety of backgrounds; Hugh Hall joins from Fife College, Brian Horisk from Horisk Leslie Development, Craig Hunter from Haines Watts Chartered Accountants, Bill Harvey from Kirkcaldy4All, and Stephen Owen from Rufflets Country House Hotel in St Andrews.
Hugh Hall, Principle of Fife College which has Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Levenmouth, Rosyth and Glenrothes campuses, said of his appointment:
“I look forward to bringing my wealth of experience in economic development and skills to the Chamber Board. Fife College is committed to working with businesses across the whole of Fife, and in my work with the Chamber Board I will take every opportunity to promote skills, innovation and employability for the benefit of all.”
Brian Horisk, whose web and database development business operates out of Cupar, said:
“When Horisk Leslie Development joined Fife Chamber we found it immediately welcoming, and it has given us the chance to meet with and learn from a huge spectrum of businesses across Fife and beyond. I wished to join the Chamber Board as I wanted to take a more active role to increase the presence of the growing tech sector in Fife. In the coming year, I hope to help the Chamber with its policy agenda, particularly promoting digital connectivity and helping develop the young workforce with skills for the future.”
Craig Hunter, Senior Audit Director at Haines Watts Kirkcaldy office, said:
“Being an active part of the Chamber will let me help support local businesses, and if they succeed, then the local economy is boosted. I bring to the Board my 20 years of financial expertise and accounting knowledge, and, as matters which impact the region are very important to me I look forward to working with the other Board members to achieve the Chamber’s objectives over the year ahead.”
Bill Harvey, BID Manager at Kirkcaldy4All said:
“I am looking forward to being part of a team that works across all sectors of the Fife economy. I will work to ensure that during the forthcoming year, and especially during these uncertain times, Fife Chamber is able to help attract new business to the region and create additional employment. I believe that Fife Chamber, in conjunction with other Chambers of Commerce, has a key role to play in continuing to advise and influence local and national politics.”
Stephen Owen, General Manager of the Rufflets Country House Hotel, said:
“For many years I have been closely involved in developing not only the hospitality industry in Fife, but also in the marketing of the region as a desirable destination for visitors and Fifers alike. The opportunity to join the Board of Fife Chamber is a fantastic opportunity for me to extend my efforts. We should all be proud of what we have to offer in the Kingdom, but with challenges ahead it is crucial for businesses to collaborate. Fife Chamber can enable this collaboration, making the challenges simpler to navigate and overcome.”
Fife Chamber President Peter Southcott said:
“I, and the rest of the Directors, are delighted that Craig, Brian, Stephen, Bill and Hugh have joined the board. They bring a wealth of experience and knowledge of business and their own sectors that will make Fife Chamber even more effective at supporting and representing its members’ interests both locally and nationally. I am looking forward to working with them over the coming year to strengthen the Chamber’s finances and governance and to provide as much practical support as we can to the Chief Executive and his team as they develop their new programmes and services for the Chamber’s members.”
