Fond Farewells and Warm Welcomes

Crosbie Matthew Funeral Directors have supported families in Fife for over 80 years.

Despite these turbulent times, they have remained focused on one goal – caring for families the best way they can.

With offices in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Dalgety Bay and Rosyth, they have recently appointed four new staff to replace several recent and forthcoming retirals.

Last year, Alan Morrison retired after 28 years’ service, Laurie Baldie after 18 years with the firm and Christine Spalding after four years’ service. This year, Funeral Director Shaun Oliver and Hazel Watson, Administrator in the Glenrothes branch, will also retire after a combination of 30 years with Crosbie Matthew.

The two new Trainee Funeral Directors, Devin Maclean (23) and Gavin Scott (39) will be dealing with families and arranging all aspects of funerals. Both are also working towards the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) Diploma.

Devin lives in Fife and previously worked with a funeral firm in Perth. She said, “The prospect of working here really appealed to me, allowing me to make lasting connections within my community. Dealing with death is just one part of the job – it’s all about the family, ensuring they can have the service they or their loved one wanted. I find it incredibly rewarding.

“Now more than ever, it’s about personalising the service, from live streaming, videos or photos to a greater choice when it comes to the coffin and hearse. We are completely focused on getting it right for every family, providing reassurance and support whatever the circumstances.”

Meanwhile, Gavin joined the company from a very different background, mechanical engineering, seeking a new direction after 20 years in oil and gas. He commented, “I was looking for new opportunities and am delighted to join the team. I love meeting new people and, although it can be challenging, we are here to ensure that the service meets the family’s wishes and provide a fitting tribute to their loved one.

“Some are seeking advice having never faced the situation before, while others have a clear idea and may have taken out a funeral plan offered by Crosbie Matthew through Golden Charter allowing them to organise and pay for the funeral in advance. And of course, our support continues in the difficult days ahead, offering ashes, keepsakes, jewellery and a full monumental service to families.”

Two administrators have also been appointed – former library worker Hayley Lindsay (26) and ex-florist Connie Dixon (32). A review of this new team means that every family deals with just one, dedicated Funeral Director and Administrator throughout the proceedings, ensuring continuity and a highly personal service.
