IT Centric Supporting Modern Apprenticeships

28th June 2018

IT Centric are one of Central Scotland’s leading IT service providers, currently providing ICT support & services to over 100 businesses. As a dynamic fast based business, we have grown steadily over the last 5 years and the Modern Apprentice Scheme has been one of the key contributors to our growth.

Providing Apprenticeships since 2011

In fact, we have been supporting the Modern Apprentice Scheme since 2011. Back then we were a small team of 3 looking to grow the company and increase the services we could offer our customers. We became involved in the apprentice programme as we recognised the benefits it could bring our business, as well as helping support a young person into the work place. Our first experience was a success, so much so, that we welcomed our 5th apprentice to the team in February this year. Two of our current IT technicians, who joined us through the Modern Apprentice Scheme, are an integral part of our support team today.

Gordon Sayers, Managing Director says “The Modern Apprentice Scheme has helped us to find the right people to work in our business. It is a win win situation, in which both the apprentice and organisation benefit from the training and support provided. We have been able offer 5 apprenticeships since 2011 and train the technicians to gain the skills our company requires.”

A highlight of the programme occurred in 2015, when one of our apprentices was nominated for the Microsoft Apprentice of the Year – a great testament to the training and development he gained on the programme. In the same year we were finalists in the Medium (sized) Employer of the Year category at the Scottish Training Federation awards 2015.

Supporting the Young Workforce

IT Centric strongly believe in helping develop the young workforce. Along with our involvement with the Apprentice Scheme, we are part of Developing the Young Workforce at Currie Community High and have taken part in regular Q&A’s with pupils to provide an insight into the opportunities in the IT sector. We have also welcomed several pupils from Edinburgh schools to undertake work experience within our team.

Next month, we are looking forward to welcoming Gordon Macdonald MSP to IT Centric, as he takes up the challenge of being an Apprentice for the Day. The initiative was launched during Skills Development Scotland’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week in March to raise awareness of the contribution which apprentices make to Scotland’s economy. #ApprenticefortheDay18
