K107FM strengthens its roots in Fife

22nd April 2025

Fife Communities Climate Action Network (FCCAN) welcomes its 100th member – K107FM, Kirkcaldy’s community radio station.

As a key voice in the community, K107FM brings local energy, creativity and a strong sense of place to the airwaves. Broadcasting across Kirkcaldy and surrounding areas, the station is powered by volunteers and offers a platform for anyone in the community to get involved in media and radio.

We’re thrilled to welcome K107FM as Fife Communities Climate Action Network’s100th member. Their commitment to community engagement and amplifying local voices aligns perfectly with the ethos of Fife Climate Hub. Reaching this milestone shows the growing strength of climate-focused, community-led action in Fife,” said Andrea Habeshaw, Communications and PR Manager at Fife Climate Hub a project of FCCAN.

As a project of FCCAN, Fife Climate Hub supports local groups to build resilience, collaborate and take practical climate action across the region. The Fife Climate Hub was created by FCCAN in June 2023 when staff were added to a previously volunteer led organisation thanks to Scottish Government funding. At that time there 38 FCCAN members. The Climate Hub team have worked hard over that time to recruit member organisations and are thrilled to have reached this milestone.

FCCAN membership is open to all constituted community groups working in Fife. It is free to join and the benefits include being part of a strong, collaborative network, access to grants, a monthly newsletter, and free and exclusive events and training.

K107FM is known for its award-winning programming and diverse content, with shows that reflect a wide range of community interests. Recognised by the Community Radio Awards and Fife Voluntary Action, as well as multiple nominations from Fife Chamber of Commerce, the station is a cornerstone of local broadcasting.

We’re proud to join a network of groups driving positive change in Fife. As a community station, we believe in using our platform to spotlight the brilliant work being done across the region – including on climate action and sustainability. Our roots are firmly in the area, and we hope to amplify the voices of those striving to make change” said Alex Airnes from K107FM.

K107 FM’s membership is a strong opportunity for collaboration, storytelling, and raising awareness of community-led climate initiatives across the airwaves.

Joining the network opened up the opportunity to access a Seed and Development grant. This allowed K107FM to record and produce ‘Climate Conversations’, an exciting new series of radio pieces dedicated to showcasing the work of FCCAN members and topics relating to climate action. The conversations will be broadcast on K107FM, published on K107FM’s website and posted on their social media platforms.

Both Fife Climate Hub and K107FM are based in New Volunteer House, East Fergus Place, Kirkcaldy. This milestone membership has been marked through by planting a tree in the building's grounds on Earth Day, April 22nd. This symbolic gesture represents the steady growth of the network’s membership – which now stands at 118 community organisations.

"Our network continues to grow in strength, reach and diversity," said Andrea. “Welcoming K107FM as our 100th member is a proud moment. Their deep local roots and commitment to amplifying community voices align perfectly with our mission to support grassroots climate action. We’re delighted to welcome the station into our community and celebrate our 100th member with an act that roots us further in the local landscape – literally!"

Fife Communities Climate Action Network and Fife Climate Hub bring together a wide range of community groups, from environmental projects to organisations working on social justice and wellbeing.
