SCC Comment on Home Office Immigration Announcement
Today, 28th February 2018, the Home Office released a statement on immigration policy under the expected transition / implementation period intended to follow the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Commenting on the decision, Liz Cameron, Director & Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“The policy statement from the Home Office provides some positive assurances, both to employers and to EU nationals and their families throughout the country.
“Chambers research has continually highlighted the rising difficulty faced by Scottish businesses in filling vacancies across the country. Providing further reassurance to EU nationals on their rights during the planned implementation period will hopefully go some way to ensuring that employers can continue to attract and retain the right talent, without further red tape and bureaucracy.
“It is crucial that the constructive approach shown today is retained in the UK’s future migration policy, so that key sectors are able to continue to operate unimpeded and mitigate the challenge of stubborn skills shortages.”
