Seescape Fife’s local sight support charity has a new Community Engagement Officer

10th January 2020

Kirstie Henderson has joined local charity seescape as their new Community Engagement Officer. Kirstie’s role is exactly that ‘in the community’ this involves organising the local charities social groups, volunteers and befriending service. Kirstie says “volunteers are at the heart of what we do, without them we couldn’t reach as many people in need as we do. In particular our Volunteer Befrienders provide vital support to tackle isolation and loneliness amongst people affected by sight impairment in Fife.

We are currently looking to recruit more Volunteer Befrienders in Fife, to match those clients with vision impairment who are referred to us for this vital service.

seescape’s Volunteer Befrienders provide much needed social contact, company and encouragement to individuals through regular agreed visits at home or out in the community, for up to 12 months. This service helps clients to work towards personal goals, such as increased confidence, learning something new, or to reconnect with a hobby or interest.

Volunteers will be offered training and support as well as an opportunity to learn new skills (e.g. sighted guide training, first aid, etc).

The ability to travel independently is important and access to a car is an advantage.

If you’d like to find out more on this or seescapes full range of services we’d love to hear from you.
