From the German media’s reaction, the vote to leave came as a real surprise. It’s a surprise because David Cameron had successfully pushed through even more preferential treatment for the UK – more so than the “the UK rebate” negotiated by Margaret Thatcher.  A particularly strange decision was that of Cornwall: distinctly pro-Brexit; but receiving plenty EU subsidies for agriculture and infrastructure; and (critically) having achieved EU protection of Geographical Indication for Cornish Pasties!

BCC: Surge in trade documentation before EU referendum

There was a surge in the volume of trade documentation issued in the second quarter of 2016 - before the EU referendum - the latest Quarterly International Trade Outlook (QITO) from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and DHL has shown.

The report’s Trade Confidence Index, measuring the volume of trade documentation issued by accredited Chambers of Commerce, rose by 9.4% on Q1 2016 to stand at a record high of 126.95 in Q2 2016 – a rise of 4.83% on Q2 2015.

Fife College Staff Kick-off New Term with Learning and Teaching Event

Staff from Fife College came together to begin their new term with a special Learning and Teaching event organised just for them.

The event was held to launch the College’s new Learning and Teaching Strategy which will drive forward all College plans to ensure that Fife College offers high quality learning and teaching alongside a great range of courses and activities.

Over 500 staff attended the event which was run simultaneously at three Fife College campuses; Halbeath in Dunfermline, St Brycedale in Kirkcaldy and Stenton in Glenrothes.

Local Students Receive ‘Transformational Mentoring’ From World Class Athletes

Students at Kirkcaldy High School in Fife will receive transformational mentoring from world class athletes, as part of an innovative new project to support young people facing disadvantage in isolated areas of England, Scotland and Wales.

Launched by Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, pupils from Kirkcaldy High School will participate on their On Track to Achieve programme and also help support vital research to truly understand the barriers that young people face to access support in these hard to reach areas.
