New Kiltwalk starts at the Old Course

More than 2,000 walkers are set to take part in the annual Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk when it comes to Fife, Dundee and Angus this Sunday.

With more than £1.3 million already distributed to charitable causes from the Glasgow Kiltwalk alone, this figure will increase after this Sunday’s event, which is the third of four Kiltwalks taking place this year.

For every pound raised by walkers, £1.40 will go to charity. This comes after Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation generously pledged that 140% of all fundraising at each of the four 2017 Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk events will go to walkers chosen charitable causes.

Paul Cooney, Chief Executive of the Kiltwalk, said: “We are really pleased to bring the Kiltwalk to St Andrews and Dundee. It really is a beautiful walk starting at the iconic Old Course in St Andrews, taking in the stunning Fife Coastal Path before heading to Dundee and finishing at Monifieth.

“To all our walkers we want to say a huge thank you. Every step taken by walkers will make a huge difference to the lives of those who need it most.

“The Kiltwalk is getting bigger every year and we truly believe it is on course to become Scotland’s biggest charity mass participation event.”

The Mighty Stride (25 miles) sets off at 9am from the world famous Old Course in St Andrews. The route takes in iconic landmarks such as the Tay Bridge and Broughty Castle, allowing for some picture-perfect moments.

The Big Stroll (11 miles) leaves Tayport at 11am while the Wee Wander (6 miles) set off from HMS Unicorn at Victoria Dock at noon. All the walks finish at the Kiltwalk Village at Blue Seaway Playground, Monifieth Beach where a hot meal, a few drinks and a night of entertainment awaits.

Kiltwalk has raised more than £4.8 million for Scottish charitable causes since 2011 and this year more than 700 charitable organisations are set to benefit as the Kiltwalk is now open to every charity. Funds raised by those who choose to walk for the Kiltwalk itself are distributed through the STV Children’s Appeal.

The Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk has been named as one of the top 25 mass participation events in the UK. Participants of all ages and abilities come together, to take part in one of three different walks to raise money for charities close to their hearts.

The first Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk 2017 took place in Glasgow on April 30, whilst the second was in Aberdeen on June 4. There’s still time to take part in the Kiltwalk this year, as well as the Dundee walk this Sunday, Kiltwalk comes to Edinburgh on September 17.

One lucky Dundee Kiltwalker will win a brand new Renault Clio thanks to Platinum sponsors Arnold Clark who have donated a car for each of the Kiltwalk events in 2017.

Kind-hearted Kiltie volunteers will further boost the fundraising effort, as for every hour of time they donate, Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation will gift £1.10 to their chosen charity.
