Engendering Stem – Case Study Request

26th June 2018

The ENGENDERING STEM project is a pan-European collaborative development project with partners from Scotland, Netherlands and Spain, funded through the Erasmus+ programme.

Equate Scotland, City of Glasgow College and European partners Miguel Altuna and VHTO

are working together to share learning and good practice amongst European partners to support Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) operating within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) sectors to be bolder on gender equality. Evidence shows that greater diversity in the workplace leads to sustainable and inclusive growth and improved productivity and performance. However, SMEs report common challenges to developing more inclusive workplaces include time, resource, access to expertise and awareness of effective practices.

The project aims to identify common barriers and associated interventional strategies that have proven to be most effective for improving gender equality in organisations at various stages of engagement. In order to achieve this the project will deliver an evidence based self-assessment toolkit, best practice guides and blended learning training solutions to over 2000 participants. A 10% increase in women’s participation in the project stakeholder population is targeted.

We are therefore inviting our industry colleagues working in SME companies to submit case studies of the positive action they are taking to promote and support gender diversity in the workplace.

We would be delighted if you had a case study that you would like to contribute to the practice guides. The guides will be distributed widely across European STEM companies, therefore this presents a great opportunity to highlight the steps that your company has taken to promote gender diversity and to highlight the benefits of doing so.

Areas we are particularly keen to hear about are outlined below, however, if you have an example of practice that does not fit under any of these headings, we’d still love to receive it.

Case study themes:

  • Policy and System
  • Recruitment
  • Career Advancement and Enhancement
  • Equal Pay
  • Workplace Culture
  • Physical Workplace Environment
  • Retention
  • Partnership Working
  • Benchmarking and Accreditation
  • Education and Training
  • Government Strategy
  • Outreach and Engagement

A template for writing the case study can be downloaded here: http://engenderingstem.eu/case-studies/case-study-submission/

Please note that while the content will remain true, it may be necessary to shorten the case study in order to fit with submissions from other organisations. We will confirm whether your case study has been selected prior to publication.
