Kirkcaldy goes the #extramile and raises £17,500 for Poppy Appeal

Thursday, 28 November 2019

In an amazing community effort, almost £17,500 has been raised by businesses, shoppers, schools, banks, pubs, restaurants, shops and many more from all around the Kirkcaldy area, in a fantastic show of generosity during this year's Scottish Poppy Appeal.

MKM Kirkcaldy, who is area organiser for the fundraising campaign has been thrilled with this year's response and delighted that so many local people have given their time to sell poppies and worked so hard to raise money in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday.

Ian Watson, Branch Director at MKM Kirkcaldy, said

"We are really proud to be part of Scotland's largest fundraising campaign and contribute to a cause that touches the heart of the nation - with young and old alike. This year we have had a phenomenal team of volunteers; their enthusiasm has been infectious and delivered a fantastic result.

We would like to say a big thank you to The Mercat Centre, The Methil Sea cadets, The Kirkcaldy Army cadets and all the volunteers, not forgetting the generosity of all the people of Kirkcaldy and the surrounding area who donated."

All money raised goes towards providing vital support to the Armed Forces community living in Scotland. The Scottish Poppy Appeal raises over £2 million each year.  This, combined with other year-round fundraising, provides support and funding to thousands of ex-Servicemen and women, as well as other vital services in advice, employment, mobility, respite, housing and mental health support.

Each year, approximately five million poppies are distributed during the Scottish Poppy Appeal, which is only possible through the tireless efforts of around 10,000 dedicated volunteers across Scotland.
